Nothing like a yummy cake, right? Here’s a recipe for a strawberry cake from the Michigan Consolidated Gas Company in the mid-1950s. Just make sure you’ve got an Angel Food Cake in the house first.

Strawberry Refrigerator Cake
Ingredients
- 1 pint strawberries
- 1 /2 to 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon gelatin
- 1 tablespoon cold water
- 1/2 cup boiling water
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup whipping cream whipped
- 2 egg whites
- 1 nine-inch Angel Food cake
Instructions

Wash strawberries, remove the stems and then mash them.

Mix sugar and strawberries.

Soak gelatin in cold water about 5 minutes.

Add boiling water and stir until gelatin is dissolved.

Add lemon juice, salt, and strawberry mixture, mix well and chill in the refrigerator.

When the mixture is set, fold in the whipped cream.

Beat egg whites until they are stiff and then fold them into the strawberry mixture.

Cut angel food cake in 3 layers horizontally.

Put strawberry chiffon filling between the layers.

Chill cake until filling is set.

Serve cake with sweetened, flavored whipped cream and strawberries.
