Apple Dumplings
Ingredients
For The Syrup
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 cup butter
- For The Apples
- 6 apples pared and cored
For The Dough
- 2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 3/4 cup shortening
- 1/2 cup milk
Instructions

Make the syrup by combining ingredients and heating to dissolve sugar. Set aside.

Pare and core apples and set aside.

Sift together flour, salt, baking powder. Add shortening and milk, and stir together until flour mixture is moistened. Roll, cut in squares.

Arrange pieces of apple on each square. Sprinkle with cinnamon, sugar, and nutmeg. Dot each with butter. Fold corners together and pinch edges. Place in greased baking pan. Pour syrup over dumplings.

Bake in moderate oven 375 for 35 minutes.
