A classic frosting from the Red Plastic Recipe Box collection.

- 2 egg whites
- 1/2 cup karo syrup red label
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Place egg whites, Karo Syrup, sugar, and salt in top of double boiler. Beat with rotary beater until partially mixed.
Place over rapidly boiling water and cook, beating constantly with rotary beater until frosting stands in peaks, about 3 to 4 minutes.
Remove from heat and continue beating 1 minute longer.
Add flavoring, beating in well.
Makes enough to cover top and sides of two 8 or 9-inch layers.
Butterscotch Frosting: Substitute Blue Label Karo for Red Label and brown sugar for white sugar.
